The Rotary International involvement in the campaign to eradicate Polio from the world (PolioPlus)  received another boost with the pledge of $100 million from the Gates Foundation to the Rotary Foundation as long as it is matched within a year by Rotary Clubs.

In addition the Google.com Foundation has made a donation of $3.5 million on similar terms.  Rotary is one of the four main partners in the project alongside the World Health Organisation, UNICEF and the US Centres for Disease Control.  If Rotary did nothing else in its existence it would still be an effort on a truely heroic scale.
