First presentation of the new year is £500 to the Chase Children's Hospice by President Nick

Community & Vocational
The Chairman Responsible for Community & Vocational is Ian Brown

In the first half of the Rotary year gave a cheque for £500 to Jacky Collins from Chase the Children's Hospice which is based in Guildford. We have also donated £500 towards the appeal set up by Rotary in the UK and Ireland to help with flood relief in the floods in the North and the West during July 2007.

As we have always done we joined with the Rotary Club of Caterham and Caterham Round Table to collect money through the Christmas Tree of Goodwill street collection.  Over the 10 nights of collection this yielded over £3500.  This was donated to East Surrey Crossroads - a group that provides respite care to carers in the area.  The staff of 27 support carers of all ages to ensure that they get some time to do the things that they personally need without having to worry about what is happening to their charges.

We have also helped out the Aspinall Foundation with a small donation.

.

During the last few years we have provided help in the local community in the following areas:

Chase Hospice - Guilford - a hospice for Children
Bletchingley Skills Centre - various projects including new classroom.
Surrey Air Ambulance - a donation in January 2007 of £1000
Rainbow Trust
- Leatherhead - respite care for seriously ill children
Caterham Scouts
- contribution towards building works for new toilets at the scout hut.
Rotary Centenary Clock
- on the roundabout opposite Church Walk with Caterham Rotary
New play equipment
at a local park
IHOT
- contribution towards the fitting out of independent living accommodation for disabled people at the barracks site.
Tandridge PHAB Club
- operating the minibus to get handicapped people to the meetings
Jubilee Sailing Trust - send physically handicapped on tall ships for the experience of a lifetime
Tandridge Crossroads - a domicilary care organisation to provide breaks for carers

plus many smaller contributions

In the last Rotary year we supported the Bletchingley Skills Centre once again with funds for redecorating part of the centre.  We also gave £1000 to Surrey Air Ambulance  which is setting up an Air Ambulance for Surrey and Sussex.  Our objective this year is to provide help to a number of local organisations.  A number of smaller donations were made during the course of the year,

Please note that the Rotary year runs from July to June.
